The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) on Saturday at its 49th Convocation conferred honorary doctorate degrees on four eminent Nigerians ,
The beneficiaries of the award included the Managing Director, Future Concerns, Mr Anthony Oguike and the Chief Executive Officer, Oriental Energy, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi.
The rest are the Group Executive Director, Obijackson Group of Companies, Ms Nnenna Obiejesie and a Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University, Jacob Olupona.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Igwe, said that the awardees had distinguished themselves in their chosen career as well contributed to the development of the Nigerian society.
Igwe said that three out of the four awardees were alumni of the institution.
The vice chancellor, however, said that their selection for the award was based on their consistent contributions in the development of the country in their various fields.
According to him, Oguike has demonstrated his passion for national development by empowering the youth through mentorship and business support.
” Oguike has held several seminars and leadership summits for students of UNN using his trailblazing story in corporate business society to inspire the youth for greatness,” he said.
He saidthat Oguike had contributed to the infrastructural development of the institution through the donation of facilities to enhance learning.
Responding after the award, Oguike thanked the institution for the honour and recognition .
He appreciated his family, staff and friends for their support.
The awardee said that for fresh graduates to succeed in the society, they must work hard.
