A former Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly , Chief Eugene Odo has donated ultramodern toilet facilities to Amauwani Primary School, Nkporogwu Ukehe, Igboetiti Local Government Area of the state.
Odo also donated educational materials to the school, including 120 desks, 260 school uniforms, set of school band, 130 school sandals and socks and 1000 exercise books.
The former speaker along with his other siblings made the donation in Nkporogwu Ukehe, during the launch of an empowerment foundation called ‘Offiaduru Empowerment Foundation’.
He said that the launch of the foundation became necessary following their desire to sustain the humanitarian legacies of their father, Ozor Samuel Odo-Ogwu who died 25 years ago.
He said that the move was not politically motivated but was meant to support indigent students in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
He also said that the indigent, talented and skilled persons within the community and its environs would also get interest-free loans from the foundation.
“This initiative sponsored alongside my siblings is to ensure that our father’s love for education does not die.
“The legacies of our late father, especially , his love for the indigent, has continued to reverberate across Nkporogwu, Ukehe Community 25 years after he joined his ancestors,” he said.
Odo urged administrators of the foundation to make sure that the selection of beneficiaries of the scheme was purely on merit and devoid of any form of partisanship.
Also, the first daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Amaka Ugwu, said there was no better way to sustain the legacy of theirfather for his people than to establish the foundation.
The Chairman of the foundation and Parish Priest, St. Christopher Parish, Nkporogwu, Ukehe, Rev. Fr. Valentine Mba,commended the family for the humanitarian gesture.
Responding after taking delivery of the educational materials and toilet facilities, the Headmaster of the benefitting school, Mr. Ephraim Ugwu thanked the donors for their goodwill.
Ugwu said that such gesture would promote sound and conducive learning environment for the pupils.
