A Victim of flood in Ekemele, Akabo, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo state, on Wednesday, has called for humanitarian assistance.
One of the affected victims of the Tuesday night flood is Mrs. Racheal Onwulesi.
She told Ikengaonline that the flood pulled down the entrance gate to her compound and forced its way into the rooms and destroyed her property and that of the children.
Among the properties damaged, according to her, were the items she bought for the preparation of her husband’s burial. Onwulesi, who is a pensioner also lamented she had not been paid her pension since 2019.
She cried out while explaining how the flood submerged her home.
“What happened to me is terrible. This is terrible. By 3 am when I woke up this morning. I woke up my children. When I heard the sign of the rain I called my children; before we could know it the gate was pulled down by the flood and everywhere was flooded as I am speaking to you my husband is lying in the mortuary and we are preparing to bury him.
“I am a pensioner. Since I came back from the US, nothing has been given to me. I have not received one naira. I have been borrowing and managing to prepare for the burial of my husband and all of a sudden I saw myself being rendered homeless by this kind of flood.
“I call on the public to come to my aid before they will hear that I am dead. I am sad. All the things I bought preparing for the burial have all been destroyed. The public should come to my aid. I don’t know where to go the public should come to my aid,” she said.
Also, her son, a banker, Nnamdi Owulesi, said: “My mum woke me up around 3 am when the flood was coming gradually all of a sudden it flooded our entire house. All our important documents have been destroyed.”
