Chukwudike Ndubeze, Awka.
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has said that arsonists perpetrating crimes and killings in parts of the state are not indigenes of the state.
The Governor sated this when he visited Aguata Local Government Area headquarters to ascertain the level of damage caused by hoodlums.
Speaking to newsmen during the inspection, the Governor stated that “85% of the criminals terrorising the state are from a particular state in the South-East while the remaining 15% come from other states.”
Soludo disclosed that their was a security operation around hoodlums’ camp within the axis of Aguluezechukwu-Ogboji, and noted that the armed criminals have been operating as kidnappers and rapists for about two years from the said camps.
He further stated that it was when they were confronted by security personnel that they decided to set Aguata LGA headquarters ablaze as they fled.
He reiterated his stance on offering amnesty to “those in the bush so they can be rehabilitated and become useful to society” but stressed that those who refused the offer shall face the full weight and wrath of the law.
Ikengaonline reported that hoodlums invaded Aguata LGA secretariat and burnt at least two buildings and some vehicles.
At Igboukwu, arsonists suspected to be those behind the Aguata attack, stopped over at a cattle market and killed many cattle and goats.
Throughout 2022, there has been heightened insecurity in Aguata and Orumba areas of Anambra with several cases of killings, robberies, and kidnappings.
