Eight suspects believed to be involved in the parade of one Mrs. Blessing Ajuese Egwuatu along the streets of Aguleri in Otuocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, have been granted bail by a Magistrate court sitting in Otuocha.
The court had last month, remanded the suspects in police custody after they were allegedly caught in a viral video parading the widow naked in public.
In the viral video, the woman was made to sit by her late husband’s corpse, assaulted and was accused of causing the death of her husband through her alleged infidelity.
Presiding over the matter, the Chief Magistrate, Justice M. I. Ogolo, gave a ruling on four-count charge of attempted murder, physical assaults, denial of rights and false accusations punishable under sections 495(a), 275(a) and 192 (c) of the Criminal Code Cap. 36 vol. II Revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 1991.
The court ruled that the matter was a bailable offence, having received applications for the release of the suspects at its previous sitting.
The suspects were granted bail and would regain their freedom if they are able to meet their bail conditions including providing a surety, personal passport photographs and the sum of N200,000 each.
