The crisis in Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), worsened on Thursday as two parallel governorship primaries were held in the state by the two factions.
While one faction elected Mr. Francis Nwifuru, the embattled Speaker of the State House of Assembly as its candidate, the other faction elected the former Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) as its candidate.
Both events held in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.
Mbam emerged as factional APC candidate in a parallel election conducted at his Campaign Office, Mile 50 in Abakaliki.
Mr. Nwifuru emerged as factional APC candidate at the parallel primary which held at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township Stadium.
At the Mile 50 congress, the former RMAFC boss scored 741 votes to defeat the Speaker, Nwifuru, who scored 7 votes.
Former Senator for Ebonyi Central, Julius Ali Ucha, scored 4 votes.
However, at the Pa Oratu Ngele factional congress, Mr Mbam came a distant fourth with 10 votes among the five candidates that took place in the election.
Mrs. Rosemary Ofoke came second with 63 votes, Senator Ucha polled 22 votes to place third while Architect Edward Nkwegu came a distant last with just 8 votes.
The winner of the factional primary, Speaker Francis Nwifuru garnered 743 votes to beat his challengers.
