Anambra State Government has inaugurated the newly constituted interim caretaker committees of various markets for optimum performance and quality service to traders and the state.
The reconstitution followed the dissolution and suspension of executives in 30 markets by the State Government.
Ikengaonline reported that the State Government had stated that the suspension of the market leaders was aimed at strengthening market leadership for effective partnership, capable of actualizing the vision of the administration for the state.
The inauguration held at SSG’s Conference Hall Government House Awka, the Anambra State capital on Wednesday.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Deputy Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Paschal Agbodike, thanked traders for supporting the government of Prof Charles Soludo.
He said the present administration had good programmes for the state that needs fund from taxes and levies.
The lawmaker warned against tax invasion or diversion saying that, “it is a criminal offence” punishable by law; and called on traders to contribute their quota in building the State.
Inaugurating the committees, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Dr. Obinna Ngonadi, on behalf of the State Government charged the new officers to collaborate with their members and support government to work for the state.
The Commissioner expressed the state Government’s readiness to provide necessary infrastructure in markets, like fire trucks, water boreholes and toilet facilities.
He cautioned them against diversion of Government revenue, construction/erection of structures in market spaces without Government approval; and congestion of roads that leads into markets.
In a remark, newly appointed Chairman of Onitsha Main Market Mr. Innocent Ezeoha, on behalf of others, thanked the State Government for the opportunity given to them to serve.
Mr. Ezeoha assured the State Government that the new executives will work hard to ensure that the administration will achieve the desired goals.
The New caretaker committees include: Ogbo market Onitsha: Mr. Sopuluchukwu Chukwudolue – Chairman; Mr. Ndubuisi Chidozie (Secretary) and seven others.
Bridge Head Market (Ogbo ogwu) Chukwuleta Ndubuisi – Chairman; Sir Obianyo Chigozie Innocent – Secretary and 19 others.
Nwugo Beer Market: Moses Umeh – Chairman; Obiora Ekwueme –Secretary and seven others.
General Motor Spare Parts Okpoko: Eribe Francis – Chairman; Prince Umeh – Secretray and five others.
Ochanja Central Market: Chief Bonaventure Muo – Chairman; Hon Obinna Maduka – Secretary And 17 others.
Onitsha Main Market: Innocent Ezeoha – Chairman; Obiefuna Bart Ifediora – Secretary, and 19 others.
Millienum Market: Chief Ogugua Okafor – Chairman; Mr. Anthony Okonkwo – Secretary and 11 others.
