The non-existent sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Monday shut down banks, markets and transportation businesses in Owerri.
Ikengaonline gathered from some of the areas visited in the Owerri capital that residents remained indoors.
Some of the streets included;Tetlow, Wethderal, Okigwe, Douglas, Mbaise and World bank areas, were all affected.
Also affected were Owerri-Port Harcourt Road, Owerri-Onitsha, Owerri- Okigwe and Owerri-Aba Roads.
Even some of the transportation companies located at Egbu and Aba Roads were closed. Only a few Buses were seen on the streets.
The major markets in the Owerri metropolis, Eke Ukwu and Relief markets shops were closed down.
Major streets of the state capital where banks were located mainly at Douglas, Wethedral and Okigwe roads saw the banks shut down for fear of being attacked by enforcers of the sit-at-home order.
Similarly, Aba the commercial capital of Abia State was on lock down as the streets were totally deserted.
Markets and banks did not open for business.
Schools also did not open as residents stayed indoors.
There was, however, a partial compliance in Umuahia the state capital as some markets opened for business.
Street stalls also opened for business but the banks were all locked up.
Some schools in Umuahia were open and human and vehicular movements were free.
IPOB had ordered sit-at-home to protest Kanu’s rendition to Nigeria but later cancelled the order following appeals and public outcry.
But despite the cancellation some unidentified persons have always threatened people against movement on Mondays.
Fear of the unknown has made people to stay away from the streets.
