As at 7am on Monday, May 30, 2022, the South-East region is still at the basement in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ongoing across the country.
According to nation’s election management body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the exercise will end on June 30, barely one month from today.
But from INEC’s Update for the week starting from Monday, shared via its verified Twitter handle, the South-East is still lagging in the voter registration exercise with 550,771 voters. The South-South still occupies the top position with 1,524,415 registered voters. Others are South-West, 1,235,610; North-West, 1,223,179; North-Central,1,107,107; and North-East, 836,204 registered voters. The total for South is 3,310,796 while the North has garnered 3,166,490. According to INEC, the total for the entire country so far is 6,477,286.

The Report exposed how several factors including voter apathy, low number of registered voters, insecurity as a result of renewed Biafra agitation, as well as uncollected PVCs may hamper the chances of the South-East presidential aspirants in the 2023 presidential election.
