The Chairman Elders Forum of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on Wednesday, described as undemocratic and discriminatory the reported attacks on residents in Lagos State, who were trying to get their permanent voter’s card, PVC.
The former owner of Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club, also called for a full-scale investigation into the incident.
Iwuanyanwu who made the call in Owerri while reacting to a viral video showing how the residents were attacked in the area, said those behind the dastardly act were against Igbo interest.
He said such action could further endanger the peace in the land.
It has been Iwuanyanwu’s stand that the country be restructured before the next year’s general elections.
According to Iwuanyanwu, “such provocative action portends great danger to the peace and unity of the country.”
He maintained that since the government made it compulsory for people to possess the PVC, all the State Governments should allow residents in their states to register or revalidate their cards.
“The ugly action should be investigated and nipped in the bud before it causes greater damage to the peace in the land. I call for a full-scale investigation to fish out the perpetrators of this ugly divisive incident and bring them to book as such is undemocratic and discriminatory.”
“The main concern of every well-meaning Nigerian this time should be on what will unite the country and not polarise the system. We call for a total restructuring of the country before next year’s general elections to find solutions to those issues causing multifarious agitations across the country,” Iwuanyanwu said.
