Abia-based journalist and the Director of ABN TV, Mr Ifeanyi Okali, has awarded scholarship to nine pupils of Our Lady of Mercy Nursery and Primary School, Mater Dei Cathedral school Umuahia to mark his birthday.
Okali who was in the school with some members of his staff as well as friends to celebrate with the pupils, said he decided to celebrate his new age with pupils to encourage academic excellence.
According to him, it is only “pupils who have shown brilliance in their academic pursuit” that will benefit from the gesture.
Addressing the pupils, Okali who was dressed in their school uniform, tasked them to be studious in order to pass their examinations and become useful members of the society.
According to him: “I came to this school to celebrate with you because I love children, I want you all to be serious with your studies because you are the leaders of tomorrow.
“You will surely lead this country, so you must work hard to take up that leadership responsibilities in the future.
“I appreciate you for the gift you have given me, I consider it as precious and show of love from you, God bless you abundantly.”
The special birthday featured songs presentation and dance competition by the pupils.
Highlight of the birthday celebration was the distribution of exercise books, pencils, and sets of mathematical instruments.
The headmistress of the school Rev Sister Rosepat Okere, commended Okali, for the kind gesture towards the school and urged him to continue with such acts of love.
