A suspected escapee of Imo prison break whose name was given as Justice Anukam on Sunday allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman, said to be from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state to death.
The incident happened at Umuejechi Nekede autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen said the suspect stabbed the pregnant woman said to be coming back from the church after the suspect mounted force on the victim to surrender what she had including her money and she refused.
It was said that the suspect has been allegedly harassing and robbing residents of their hard-earned money in a broad daylight in the area.
An eyewitness said: “The victim was a pregnant woman who came out at the popular Ama-Ato Junction, a route she uses during Sunday worship.
“The suspect accosted her and demanded money from the woman and when she refused, he stabbed her with a sharp knife and the pregnant woman bled to death.”
However, there was a mild drama between the angry youths of the area who had beaten the suspect and were about to set him ablaze but for the quick intervention of the police officers from the Ihiagwa divisional station who came and rescued the suspect after confronting the angry youths threatening to burn him.
