The Elders Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has told the Senate that the group would be ready to defend Ekweremadu, in court in London where he is currently detained with his wife over alleged organ harvesting.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, dated 5th July 2022, signed by the Chairman Elders Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and made available to newsmen in Owerri on Friday.
Ohanaeze among other things said that the apex Igbo socio-cultural body is prepared to defend any honest and patriotic citizen whose rights and freedom are being unduly trampled upon anywhere in the world.
According to Iwuanyanwu’s letter entitled: “Travail of our illustrious son Senator Ike Ekweremadu” which was personally signed by the Chairman, Council of Elders of the body, Chief Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide said that it is determined to defend any honest and patriotic citizen whose right and freedom are being unduly trampled upon anywhere in the world.
“The news about the arrest of the former Deputy Senate President with his wife in far away London was received with shock in many places, especially within the rank and file of the umbrella body of all Igbo socio-cultural organization (the Ohanaeze Ndigbo) where Ekweremadu is a very active member.”
“We do not have any doubt whatsoever that the truth will emerge and our son and his wife will be vindicated. We are however, happy and profoundly appreciative of your solidarity with your dear colleague and friend during this trying period.
“We also pray that the Almighty God would visit the daughter of Ekweremadu who is sick with divine healing,” Iwuanyanwu said.
