The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general election in Enugu State, Mr Frank Nweke (Jnr.) on Tuesday in Enugu unveiled his running mate.
Ikengaonline reports that Nweke announced Mrs Edith Ugwuanyi from Igboeze South Local Government Area of the state as his running mate.
Ugwuanyi, was a former Senior Special Assistant of Mobilisation to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state.
Meanwhile, Nweke described his running mate as a politician who carried the unique attributes and ideals that were paramount to the party and overall vision for the state.
According to the former information minister, he considered competence and character as priority in the consideration of his running mate.
“I want a deputy that I will work and partner with me to build a government founded on good governance, law and order, human capital development, economic development and sustainable environment.
“It was important for me to select a woman as my running mate because of my belief in the role women can play in the society,” Nweke said.
“For me, I see it as providence and recognition of the years of service of hard-work and desire to make life better for our people.
“I accepted this nomination because I was convinced that Nweke has some attributes in government. He has integrity and empathy,” she said.
She described the ticket as a bold statement for inclusion and having competent women committed to creating a state that works for the people.
“We want to be able to see many women be in a position of active service. I feel delighted to be in a party whose manifesto is people oriented, recognised and applauds competence regardless of gender.
“Together, we will run a campaign that will improve the youth and women and bring Enugu out of penury as the second poorest state in the South-East and to restore it to the pride it used to have.
“This is a ticket that truly cares for our people,” Ugwuanyi said.
