Members of Peter Obi support Network, POSN, one of the leading support groups of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, Tuesday, visited some destitute homes and motor parks in Umuahia the Abia State capital to mark his 61st birthday.
The fans of Obi donated relief materials to the homes including So-Said Motherless Babies Home Ubakala, and School of the Blind Afara, before storming the popular Isi-Gate Motor Park Umuahia where they cut Obi’s birthday cake and shared to the enthusiastic on-lookers and passersby.
Addressing inmates of the School of the Blind, Abia State Cordinator of the group, Comrade Prince Solomon, said members of the group “are like-minds and progressives” who on their own decided to mobilise support for Obi based on his track records and integrity.
He said that they had assessed all the presidential flag bearers and saw in Obi “the solution Nigeria urgently needs to avoid total collapse.”
According to Solomon, their support for Obi is not because of his tribe or religion but purely based on his antecedents and capacity.
He explained that members of the group cut across different political parties, declaring that Nigeria is on life support and urgently needs a Messiah, hence “nobody is interested in parties any more.”
The former President, Student Union Government, SUG, Abia State University, told the inmates that Obi is not vying for office because of himself but to use it as a platform to better the lots of the masses.
“Obi is on a rescue mission and we are prepared to join him to rescue Nigeria from political Kidnappers holding the country hostage.”
He urged eligible voters who do not yet have their voter’s card to hurry and get it before the latest deadline so as to help in ushering in “a new Nigeria where cows will not be valued above human lives.”
Responding, the Principal of the School of the Blind, Mrs Selen Olughu, thanked the group for the relief materials donated to the inmates.
She said they had heard so much about Obi on news and assured him of their continued prayers for his success.
Adding her voice, one of the teachers in the school who has sight impairment, Ms Love Munonye, said that even the blind were already part of the ‘Obi-dient‘ family, adding that Obi’s legacies in Anambra as former Governor can never be erased.
The inmates made passionate prayers for the success of Obi’s political ambition.
In his remarks, one of the leaders of the group, Apostle David Onuoha, said that Obi’s movement was divine and gaining momentum across the country.
The cleric said that progressive Nigerians irrespective of their tribes and religion were united in the resolve to evolve a new country where peace, security and economic growth would be guaranteed.
At Isi-Gate motorists and passersby were hailing the group as they sang birthday song for Obi before cutting the birthday cake.
The colourful outing was applauded by passersby and members of the public who joyfully came to take a bite of the cake and danced with the group.
