The gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general election in Enugu State, Mr Frank Nweke (Jnr.), says he will invest in technical education if elected as governor.
Nweke, a former minister of information, disclosed this on Monday in Enugu while interacting with journalists on his aspiration.
He said that the education sector, including primary and secondary levels which were the engine room of any economy would receive massive boost.
He also said that there would be deliberate efforts to pull the youths of the state out of poverty by building and revamping ailing industries in the state.
Nweke said that the state had regressed in the last seven years, adding that the ruling party in the state could no longer justify its presence and why it should be trusted.
“Enugu State is not working as it should. There is endemic poverty, unemployment, criminality, insecurity, bad roads and water scarcity,” he said.
The gubernatorial candidate said that his desire to run on APGA platform was due to his philosophy and belief in the delivery of democracy dividends to the people.
He described APGA as a spin-off from the defunct United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA) of the 1950s and 1960s.
According to him, UPGA had the likes of the former Premier of Defunct Old Eastern Region, late Dr. Michael Okpara and other Nigerian leaders who distinguished themselves in positions of leadership.
“The economy of the Old Eastern Nigeria was among the best in the world when he and others were in charge.
“They had a clear economic philosophy and recognised that public service was about the people and not themselves,” he said.
Nweke said that he would replicate the leadership qualities, integrity, vision and mission of Okpara if elected as governor.
“If elected as governor, my administration will invest massively in both primary, secondary and technical education and will pull our youths out of poverty by building and revamping our industries.
“We will improve the water situation in the state and invest in road infrastructure,” he said.
Nweke described Anambra under the administration of Mr Peter Obi as a worthy example of what the party could do and had done.
“APGA is known to have a track record of successes and encourages the philosophy of shared prosperity which ensures the best form of security,” Nweke said.
