The Federal Government has condemned the murder of a Nigerian, Mr Ogorchukwu Alika, 39, in Civitanova, Marche Province of Italy.
A statement on Sunday by the Spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Fransisca Omayuli, described the incident as shocking and unjustifiable.
Recall that Alika, a street seller was reportedly beaten to death in the centre of Civitanova Marche, a beach town on the Adriatic Sea, after he made ‘insistent’ requests to sell handkerchiefs, and ‘for pocket change.’
The statement called on the Government of Italy to bring the perpetrator of the heinous crime to book without further delay.
“Accordingly, the Federal Government of Nigeria has directed its embassy in Rome, Italy, to work speedily, together with the relevant Italian authorities to ensure that justice is served.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria is deeply saddened and commiserates with the family of the deceased and call on all Nigerians to exercise restraint as the law takes its cause in the case,” it stated.
