A group of Enugu State health workers has endorsed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 gubernatorial election, Mr Peter Mba.
The Coordinator of the group, Dr. Robert Nnamchi, disclosed this on Friday in Enugu while briefing newsmen after their meeting.
Nnamchi said that the endorsement of the PDP candidate followed an unbiased assessment of the antecedents of the major contestants in the election.
He said that the group comprised medical doctors, laboratory scientists, pharmacists and nurses.
The coordinator said that as a businessman, industrialist and a former commissioner for finance in the state, Mba possessed the qualities needed to make the state work again.
“This is a man who stamped his seal of excellence during his tenure as commissioner for finance in the state.
“It is on record that before Mba ventured into politics, he built a state-of-the-art and fully equipped hospital that provides 24 hours emergency specialist services for his people,” he said.
According to Nnamchi, the group under the auspices of Peter Mba Medic Vanguard will embark on a free medical outreach in five selected communities in each of the 17 local government areas of the state.
“During the outreach, a team of medical experts will dispense free treatments, including minor eye and dental surgeries and free laboratory tests,” he said.
“We will equally hold advocacy visits, health talks, seminars, preventive health education and communal de-worming campaign.
“Our plan is to deploy all necessary health tools available to ensure that poor people in this catchment communities benefit from this programme,” he said.
He said that the exercise would be carried out in partnership with some local pharmaceutical companies and good spirited individuals in the state.
Nnamchi said that the emergence of Mba as governor would entrench good governance in the state.
