A middle-aged woman, Mrs Onyinyechi Ozokolo from Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State has narrated how her husband, Mr Ndubueze Ozokolo allegedly attempted to chop off her eyes with his teeth.
Ozokolo, a mother of five minor children who resides at Coal Camp, Enugu North Local Government Area, said that the incident happened on August 19, 2022.
She said that it all started when she attempted to stop her husband from beating their 13-year old daughter with a machete.
“He was beating our daughter with machete and I tried to stop him from causing grievous harm on the girl. He then turned towards me, held me and bit my left eyes,” she said.
The victim, a petty trader, noted that they had been married for 13 years, adding that her husband had constantly battered her over minor issues for the period.
Ozokolo said that those who were concerned with her plight after the incident took her to the office of Women and Child Justice Initiative Nigeria (WCJIN) a non-governmental Organisation in Enugu for counseling and assistance.
However, the husband denied the allegation, adding that he did not bite the wife.
He said that they were fighting and his wife brought a stone to hit him but the stone fell on her eyes and caused her the injury.
Meanwhile, the Founding Director of WCJIN, Mrs Amaka Ilodigwe, said that the victim was brought to their office with a deep cut on her eyelid, profusely bleeding.
“We were able to get help for the woman and even wrote to the Central Police Station in the area after which the husband was arrested,” she said.
Ilodigwe said that WCJIN would ensure that justice prevailed in the matter as the man would be arraigned in court soon.
She appealed to good-spirited Nigerians to assist the victim financially in order to overcome her current predicament and establish a business.
