The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has called on the Anambra State Government to intervene and improve the condition of access road leading to its command in the state.
The call was made during the official decoration of Immigration officers in Anambra State, who were elevated to new ranks following the announcement by the NIS Comptroller-General, Isah Jere Idris, in Abuja, Friday.
Complaining about the road, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration and coordinator controlling Zone G, ACG Dominic Asogwa said the people of the state do not deserve the sufferings they experience on the road, and urged the government to show concern by improving the state of the access road.
“I know that the Comptroller in the state is interfacing with the government of the state, I know that Anambra State deserves better when it comes to migration management.
“There are lots of Anambrarians living outside the country and so, they deserve to have a better infrastructure especially road leading to the place they obtain their documents.
“Be it as it may that we are federal institution, but we are servicing the people of the state. At such, the government should come to our aid so that the road would be motorable.”
On the services of the command, Asogwa disclosed that the country’s international passport has undergone improvement with sophisticated technology that will aid the detection of the activities of criminal elements who intend to use the passport for nefarious purposes.
He said “the passport has been improved with over 25 security features,” noting that first class technologies were utilised in its preparation and issuance.
Asogwa also hinted that the recent improvement was not unconnected to the prevailing insecurity in the land, noted that precious lives, including that of Immigration officers have been lost overtime to the activities of criminals.
