Some policemen were wounded when gunmen, Wednesday night, attacked the Abia State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, of the Nigeria Police, located at Uzuakoli Road Umuahia.
It is not yet clear if inmates at the facility were freed by the invaders but a source said that the details of the invasion were still sketchy as at the time of filing this report.
According to the source one of the police personnel on duty was macheted by the attackers while two were shot.
The victims were said to have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Efforts to confirm the attack were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna did not pick calls put across to him.
