The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, appears rattled as one of its governors and major financiers, Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has again, hosted the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
This will be about the third time Obi is visiting Wike since the Rivers State Governor started having issues with the presidential candidate of his party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Amid speculations that Atiku may have finally called the bluff of Gov. Wike and his loyalists who had earlier in the week pulled out of Atiku’s Campaign Council, Obi may be the beneficiary of the brewing cold war in the PDP.
Ikengaonline reports that the LP presidential candidate had on June 22, 2022, visited Wike in his Port Harcourt private home.
There was no official statement at the end of the closed-door meeting which lasted for hours.
Gov. Wike who took to his Twitter handle to share pictures of Obi’s visit wrote: “It was nice hosting my brother @PeterObi once again.”
Similarly, Obi on his own Twitter handle, also shared pictures of his meeting with Wike’s political ally, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
He wrote: “I was at Ibadan, and I visited my brother and friend, HE @seyiamakinde, the Governor of Oyo State as part of my consultations ahead of the 2023 general election. We had very frank and constructive discussions. -PO.
Wike and PDP Governors loyal to him had on Wednesday, boycotted Atiku’s book launch cum the inauguration of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.
