Anambra State Government has declared zero tolerance on human trafficking in the state.
The state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, gave the warning in Awka when six girls who gave their kids to traffickers came to plead for the release of their children.
She warned that anyone caught engaging in such act would not go scot-free, stressing that the culprits would be used as scapegoats to serve as deterrent to others.
The six young mothers include 22-year-old Ogochukwu Nwachukwu; 30-year-old Uchenna Amadi, both from Ebonyi State; 28-year-old Juliet Okon; 23-year-old Mirable Edet; both from Akwa-Ibom State; 21-year-old Christiana Ọkọn from Calabar, Cross River State; and 20-year-old Onyebuchi Orajiaka from Okija, Anambra State.
The culprits, during interrogation, revealed that they were usually paid N10,000 and N20, 000 every weekend, depending on the number of children they give to their accomplices.
They, however, pleaded not to engage in such illegal acts again if pardoned.
