Nine persons were killed in a multiple crash involving three vehicles along the Abakaliki-Enugu road on Thursday.

The accident, it was gathered, was as a result of wrongful overtaking by one of the vehicles.

Seven persons died on the spot while two more died at the hospital, it was learnt.

Four others sustained various degrees of injury and are receiving treatment at the hospital.

The incident happened at Idodo junction axis of the highway which is in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

However, due to its closeness to the boarder with Ebonyi State, the Ebonyi Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission were among the first responders.

The accident involved a gold coloured  Toyota Sienna bus with registration number ENU976SC, a white coloured Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number XT610LSR and a green colored Mark truck.

FRSC Sector Commander in charge of Ebonyi Command, Uche Chukwurah, confirmed the incident.

According to her, a total of 13 persons were involved in the crash, 10 males and 3 females.

She said: “The initial seven dead victims were deposited at Chidex mortuary Idodo while four victims were taken to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital AE-FUTHA  (3 males and 1female) adults.

“Two males were later confirmed dead and were deposited at AE-FUTHA mortuary.

“One male and one Female are still receiving treatment at AE-FUTHA,

two male adults were also taken to Eziulo hospital and are also receiving treatment,” she said.

The Sector Commander noted that eight of the dead were males while one was a female.
