The Imo state Police command on Tuesday said one of the suspected hoodlums involved in snatching of motorcycles was shot dead and two others escaped in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mike Abattam, stated this at the police headquarters in Owerri, during the parade of the lifeless body of one of the suspects.

He said the incident took place last Monday, at Ohi and Egbada junction in Owerri West council area of Imo State, where the suspects were carrying out a robbery operation.

The Police said one of the suspects was killed because on sighting the Police they hoodlums opened fire on the security officers and in the process one of the suspects was shot dead and others escaped.

According to Police, “Sequel to a distress call from a robbed victim, on 21/11/2022 at about 21:27 hours, that hoodlums numbering about three after snatching two motorcycles from their owners were seen between Ohi and Egbada junction in Owerri West LGA of Imo State, robbing innocent victims of their money and valuables.

“The Command’s Tactical Team on receipt of the information immediately mobilized to the scene. The hoodlums opened fire on sighting the operatives who in turn, responded taking cover and positioning themselves professionally. In the gun duel that ensued, one of the armed robbers was neutralized while others escaped on the snatched motorcycles with bullet wounds.”

“The operatives then searched and recovered one fully loaded AK-47 rifle with double magazines belonging to the neutralized robber and one loaded locally made pistol with two cartridges suspected to have been abandoned by one of the fleeing robbers.  

“The corpse was later removed and deposited at Federal Medical Centre mortuary while the Operatives are on the trail of the fleeing suspects,” Police said.
