President Muhammadu Buhari, has forwarded the name of his Special Assistant on new Media, Lauretta Onochie, to the Senate for confirmation as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Onochie’s name was sent to the Senate along with other 15 nominees as members of the NDDC Board.
Ikengaonline recalls that Onochie’s nomination by the President for confirmation as Commissioner representing Delta State in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last year sparked protest by civil society groups and members of the opposition parties.
The outrage that greeted her nomination forced the Senate to drop her name ostensibly for breaching the federal character policy.
According to the list of the NDDC Board read out by President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the nominees include: Dimgba Erugba – State representative (Abia, South East), Ene Wilcox ( Akwa Ibom, State Representative, South South ), Pius Odubu (Edo, South South), Gbenga Odegba (South West, Ondo) and Anthony Ekene (South East, Imo state).
Others are Onyekachi Dimgba (Rivers State South South), Mohammed Abubakar (Zonal Representative, Nasarawa), Tallen Mamma, (North East Representative, Adamawa), Sodique Sani (North West, Zonal Representative), Samuel Ibukun (MD), Charles Airhiavbere, (Executive Director, Finance) and Charles Ogunmola (Executive Director Project , South West).
