The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, has called on the Federal Government to increase its budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote local production and investments.
Okafor made the call at the International Conference Center in Awka, while delivering a lecture on the theme: “State Assembly Legislatures as Veritable Instrument for Meaningful Development in Nigeria,” during a National Innovation Workshop organized by the Senate Committee on Science and Technology under the Chairmanship of Senator Uche Ekwunife.
The Speaker who commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for promoting science and technology through local investments and patronage, noted that the Governor’s patronage to Abia State Akwaete makers, Innoson Motors as well as the production of other local contents in the state are some of the ways to take science and technology to enviable heights.
He called on the public to furnish Government and legislative institutions in the country with necessary proposals required to improve research in science and technology.
Okafor made a strong case for the review of the education system and curriculum to allot more time and resources to the teaching of science and technology in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions which, according to him, will help in strengthening the study of science and technology in Nigeria.
