A forty-year-old man, Kenneth Nwangwu, of Akama village, Igbo-ukwu Aguata Local Government Area has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling his daughter.
The arrest was made after a tip-off by a whistleblower.
But the suspect who is currently in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Awka, says he has never had carnal knowledge of his daughter. He said, “it is unfortunate that my enemies are plotting my downfall.”
The suspect denied every allegation leveled against him but after a medical examination on the nine-year-old girl, it was discovered that there was defilement.
Further investigation revealed that the forty-year-old suspect has nothing tangible doing for a living and has been the only parent of her daughter since his ex-wife left them many years ago.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, said she was ready to see the case through and get justice for the minor.
The Women and Social Welfare Commissioner also decried the high rate of defilement cases in the state and encouraged people to always say something when they see something.
She stated that cases already transferred to the state high court will receive speedy justice delivery as the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence High Court will start sitting soon.
