Legal luminary, Mike Ozekhome, has again, called for the unconditional release of the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in compliance with various court judgments that ordered his release.
Ozekhome who is Kanu’s senior lawyer restated the call Friday after he was conferred with Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) by the Abia State University Uturu.
The rights activist regretted that despite valid pronouncements by courts of competent jurisdiction, President Muhammadu Buhari had remained adamant towards freeing the IPOB Leader.
Ozekhome who recounted how he was able to convince the Court of Appeal to quash all counts of charge against Kanu, regretted that the Federal Government had refused to do the needful.
He said that the Appeal Court, in unambiguous terms, had declared that “Kanu should be released forthwith and never again to be tried in any Nigerian court.”
Continuing, he said: “But this insensitive and uncaring government has kept Kanu in DSS detention in a solitary confinement. This is injustice.”
He appealed to President Buhari to show respect for the Courts and free Kanu who he insisted had committed no crime to be put in jail while terrorists were being granted pardon.
