Soccer legend and Super Eagle ex-striker, Kanu Nwankwo, has refuted social media reports that he endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Kanu who took to his Twitter handle, dismissed the said media report as “fake and wicked,” urging members of the public to discountenance it.
Ikengaonline reports that Kanu’s old clip praising Tinubu, had recently gone viral.
In the old video recorded during a visit to mark Tinubu’s 70th birthday in 2022, Kanu recounted how the former Lagos Governor was among the first donors to his Foundation.
However, some persons believed to be Tinubu’s loyalists, twisted the video to mean that Kanu had endorsed the APC presidential flag bearer.
But peeved by the distortion of facts, Kanu warned peddlers of the fake news not to drag him into politics, saying he has nothing to do with politics.
He warned them to stop the blackmail.
“Don’t try to destroy what you cannot destroy.”
“I have said it and I will say it again. I am not a politician but a footballer. Whoever is spreading fake news that I asked you to vote for somebody.
“I do not do such. My life is all about football. That is my field and I am proud of it.
“This is the last time: stop spreading fake, wicked news against Papilo. I am here to help people. Do not try to destroy what you cannot destroy.”
The ex-Super Eagles striker, urged Nigerians to get their Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs and “vote for the best to make Nigeria better.”
He expressed optimism that the forthcoming polls would give birth to a new Nigeria, while urging youths to join in the efforts to liberate the country.
