Communities in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State who were submerged by the recent flood disaster have received interventions from UNICEF.
According to the Enugu Field Officer, Mr. Andy Nwanze, who spoke at Nzam, the headquarters of Anambra West, the relief materials, were water treatment tablets, water, sanitation and Hygiene, Dignity kits, which contain bucket, gallon, soaps, toothpaste and children’s clothes.
Other items given to the beneficiaries were, water treatment sachets, which has salt for disinfection of water, Aqua tab used for cleaning of drinking water.
Mr Nwanze noted that seven council areas in Anambra state and one hundred and thirty-six WASHCOM Communities will receive their own items.
In his speech, Mr. Ugochukwu Nwafor, the Head of Department, water quality, RUWASSA, Anambra State, said that the aim of the visit to Nzam was to sensitise people of the area on how to make good use of the materials to prevent water related diseases, stressing that the distributed items are intervention packages, for victims of the 2022 flood menace in Anambra State.
In appreciation of the visit, the Deputy chairman of Anambra West council area, Mr. John Okonkwo expressed satisfaction for the frequent intervention of UNICEF in the area.
