A lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, was on Tuesday shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.
The deceased, identified as Prof. Anthony Eze from the Faculty of Education, was reportedly killed by assailants who were said to have stormed his residence in Awka with a Toyota Corolla salon car, shooting him at close range.
A resident of the area who preferred anonymity said the deceased had attempted to flee on sighting the assailants who rushed at him and shot him repeatedly on his chest.
He said, “We were here this morning when the man was driving out of his house and suddenly a Toyota Corolla salon car pulled towards the entrance of his house.
“When he tried to drive back they followed him and shot him, emptying about four bullets into his chest. As soon as they executed their plot, they fled to an unknown destination while we ran for our lives.”
The man said the deceased was rushed to the General Hospital Amaku where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command was yet to receive information about the incident, but Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, UNIZIK, Chika Ene, confirmed the incident.
She however said she was yet to receive full details of the incident.
