Barely days after the gruesome murder of a UNIZIK lecturer in his residence in Awka, Anambra State capital, gunmen have again launched similar attack in Nkpor, Idemmili North Local government Area of the state.
The yet to be identified gunmen trailed a middle aged man and father of two, Mr. Chinonso (a.k.a Olenwa) to his home and shot him dead in broad daylight.
The gunmen, who were said to be three in number, arrived the victim’s residence at Attah Road, Nkpor, at noon, rounded-up Chinonso and fired several shots at him, while he was having lunch with his family.
Chinonso, whose wife is heavily pregnant, made attempt to escape from his assailants but didn’t succeed as he was hit by their bullets and he crashed to the ground.
According to a source close to the family, Ebere Chiefe, the gunmen after gunning down Chinonso, chopped off his hand with knife and made away with the hand.
“Olenwa was eating in his house with his back at the entrance of his home when the assailants arrived. They fired three gunshots and people within the environs took to safe hiding spots. After a while, there was noise and cry from Nonso’s home. People gathered to behold Nonso in the pool of his own blood.”
Ebere noted that while the gunmen made to go with Nonso’s hand, his little son held one of the hoodlums by the leg and was crying that they should return his father to life. The gunman brutally kicked him off and drove off in a vehicle they came with.
Another anonymous source said the killers forced Nonso’s mother to witness the killing of her son; an act he described as the height of barbarism and wondered why they opted to go with his body part (hand). He lamented the spate of killings in the state over the past months.
