The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii has promised to end the lingering communal and boundary clashes ravaging Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
He stated this during the local government rally of the PDP on Wednesday.
Ohaukwu LG in the state has long been ravaged by the boundary dispute between the Mgbo community and their neighbouring Agila community in Benue State.
Also, in 2021, an intra-communal crisis between the Ezza Effium and Effium people in Effium community sprang up.
Both clashes have led to loss of countless lives and property worth millions of naira and have continued unabated with thousands displaced.
Addressing the people of the area, Mr Odii pledged to restore peace in the area if elected Governor.
Odii, who recalled that he had given scholarships and built houses for people as well as supported them financially before he aspired for the governorship position, expressed confidence that he would do more and restore peace to the people as the governor of the state.
Speaking further, the wife of the governorship candidate, Mrs. Ebele Odii, said she is confident that her husband would serve the people faithfully and urged them to support him.
The senatorial candidate for Ebonyi North, Dr. Sam Egwu, reassured the people that the PDP would reclaim power in the State.
He said even though the governor left the party, its a blessing for the people as their votes would count on the election day.
He expressed confidence in the governorship candidate and described him as a child of destiny.
“AnyiChuks never wanted to be governor, I stood for Ebonyi North but it didn’t work, and now he emerged after several court cases, and as a party faithful we are bound to support the party, we believe that he will not disappoint them,” he said.
The State PDP chairman, Ifeanyi Nworie, urged the people of Ohaukwu to wisely vote for PDP at all levels.
Endorsing Mr Odii, Mr Nworie described him as a promise keeper who will never go back on his words to deliver.
He apologised to the people for electing Governor David Umahi who defected from the Party and appealed to their conscience to support the PDP for showcasing a more credible candidate who will serve them better.
Also speaking at the event was Mrs. Amaka Igboke, the PDP woman leader in the State who recalled that Ohaukwu LGA having produced the first executive governor, Dr. Sam Egwu on the platform of the party, deserves to replicate it by voting for PDP at all levels.
The Ohaukwu PDP chairman, Mr. Godwin Ishiali, called on Ohaukwu people to support Mr Odii.
He noted the hardship caused by the current administration while commending the contributions of the PDP guber candidate in the provision of succor to the people affected by the Ezza/Effium crisis.
