The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu, has described as “unpardonable,” the attitude and unfeigned opposition of State Governors to some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies to move Nigeria forward.

Okechukwu who featured on Arise Television programme Monday morning, berated the Governors for their stiff opposition to the programmes and policies of the President.

Reacting to a question on whether the open confrontation between some Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the President over the naira re-design policy was not a low mark for the ruling APC, Okechukwu, said the Governors had been a major drawback to most good policies of the President.

“What the Governors did to Buhari is unpardonable.”

He recalled how the State Governors opposed judiciary and Local Government autonomy proposed by Buhari.

Continuing he said: “The Governors have not been kind to the Nigerian State.”

Okechukwu further blamed the rising Nigeria external debt burden on State Governors.

“They contributed heavily to the external debt burden of this country,” Okechukwu fumed.

On whether the presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, did not pose serious threat to APC in the February 25 presidential poll, the VON DG said Atiku had nothing new to offer.

He said he was not bothered about PDP but concerned rather about the candidates of the hitherto small parties like the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi; and New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“What new is Atiku coming to offer. You remember how he sold things as Vice President during the Privatisation policy? Is he coming to sell more things?

“I’m bothered about Obi and Kwankwaso, not Atiku.”

Okechukwu said that Atiku would not get support from the North because the zone knew he would never represent its interest.

He also said the South would not vote for him for violating the PDP constitution on power rotation.

“The North knows Atiku does not represent its interest, and the South has not forgiven him for destroying the PDP constitution on zoning by shortchanging the region.”
