Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has been commended for posting a remarkable footprints on the infrastructural sector.
Commissioner for Works, Dr Cosmos Ndukwe, who made the commendation during inspection of some projects in Aba and its suburbs, assured that more infrastructural projects would be delivered before the expiration of Ikpeazu’s tenure.
The former Commissioner for Trade disclosed that asphalting of Faulks Road from Osusu Road junction towards Ariaria International Market would commence this week.
Ndukwe said that Gov. Ikpeazu was very committed towards delivering on the project before the expiration of his tenure.
According to him, “while most governors are focused on political campaigns, Ikpeazu is still working like one who just assumed office.”
Some of the projects inspected by the new Commissioner included Eziukwu Road linking to the popular Eziukwu Market; Obohia Road connecting Aba South, Ugwunagbo and Ukwa East Local Government Areas; and a new road linking Ehere Market to the Aba/Ikot-Ekepene Highway.
The Commissioner also inspected the 9.7 kilometres Agalaba-Uratta Ring Road transversing many communities in Obingwa down to Abala-Ibeme community boundaries with Akwa-Ibom State.
He directed the contractor handling Eziukwu Road to remove the blockade placed around Eziukwu by Tenant Road to enable traders at the Eziukwu Market and residents of the area to have access to the market and their homes.
He expressed satisfaction over the quality of job so far done on the second phase of Obohia Road which began at Ohuru-Ndoki, Ukwa East LGA down to Obohia Junction connecting the road to Azumini-Ukanafun Highway,
The Commissioner, however, instructed the contractor to de-silt the drainage on both sides of the road, and to put slabs on the connections to enable villagers to access their homes with ease.
He explained that a separate contractor handling the first phase from the Aba township would link up with the contractor handling the Ukwa and Ugwunagbo axis of the road.
This, according to him, is to enable the Obohia Road to be motorable again from Aba to Ukwa East after many decades of being in deplorable condition.
The Commissioner expressed optimism that before the rains set in, most of the on-going road projects initiated by Ikpeazu would have been delivered.
