The main opposition parties, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on behalf of nine political parties have called for the cancellation of the results of the presidential election held nationwide on Saturday.

The three parties on behalf of the others made their stance known at a press conference in Abuja Tuesday afternoon.

The nine political parties had earlier yesterday (Monday)  staged a walkout at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) national collation centre in Abuja.

Although only the PDP represented by its national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu; the LP represented by its chairman, Julius Abure; and ADC were present at the briefing, the three parties said they were speaking for all the nine political parties that walked out on the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the International Conference Centre Abuja venue of the national collation centre.

The parties said that the results being announced by INEC do not represent the wishes of the Nigerian voters.

The coalition said they decided to call for the cancellation now without waiting for conclusion of the process with the announcement of the eventual winner because, they are challenging the very process, which is producing the announced manipulated results.

They claim that the process has failed irretrievably and should be stopped forthwith as INEC had refused to upload polling units results to its portal as required by the Electoral Act. Instead, the election management body is going about allocating results to political parties to suit a predetermined end, the parties said.
