The European Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria has given the Federal Government two days ultimatum to hold those responsible for violence during the 2023 general election to account.
The ultimatum came on the heels of the presidential and national assembly elections that held February 25, 2023.
The body, speaking through the Chief Observer, Barry Andrews, condemned in very strong terms, acts of severe and coordinated incidents of violence, especially the assassination of a politician.
The European Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria reminded party candidates and stakeholders in the election about the peace accord they all signed before the elections, and urged anyone with concerns to channel them through designated election tribunals and courts; as provided for in the constitution.
According to the Chief Observer, the EU will continue to observe the electoral process, adding that transparency, impartiality of security agencies, as well as the independence of the judiciary will not be compromised under their watch.
