Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah each scored two goals, and Roberto Firmino, one, as Manchester United suffered its worst defeat in the Premier League Era on Sunday after being beaten to pulp by former champions Liverpool, who put unprecedented 7 un-replied goals past the Erik ten Hag side.

It was ironic that United who came into the game with an 11-game unbeaten run controlled must of the first half missing chances after chances only to fall behind in the 42nd minute with Liverpool’s first strike on target.

Cody Gakpo, a former target for United received a defence-splitting pass from Left back, Andy Robertson, cut in from the left flank, and fired beyond David de Gea in goal for Liverpool’s first.

A minute after resumption for the second period, Liverpool struck again through Darwin Nunez after a confusion among United defenders. From that point onwards, it seemed that game had gone away from the men from Old Trafford.

The third Liverpool goal came after Mohammed Salah turned United Center Back, Martinez inside out and slid a pass to Gakpo who flicked the ball delicately beyond de Gea for his second on the night. Midway into the second half Salah scored the fourth. The fifth came from Nunez who glanced a header past a helpless de Gea. There was still time for Salah to complete his brace and the sixth for Liverpool when he took advantage of a defensive confusion in United’s box to rifle home. Bobby Firmino, a late substitute, still had time to complete the rout to put Liverpool in the seventh heaven and condemn Manchester United to an embarrassing defeat at Anfield.
