Lawrence Nwimo, Awka
About seven persons have been arrested for allegedly impersonating officials of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service on Thursday.
The joint enforcement team of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, led by Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, made the arrest when they raided Awka and Oye-Agu and Abagana.
The suspects were caught red-handed collecting illegal tax and issuing fake receipts to tricycle operators and mini-bus drivers plying the busy Awka-Onitsha old road.
Speaking to newsmen at the agency’s headquarters in Awka, Comrade Anere
said the arrested suspects would continue to serve as deterrent to others who bent on frustrating the efforts of the Government.
He warned that any one found flaunting the law of the land would be prosecuted.
He also assured that the agency would not relent in its quest of riding the state of criminal elements and restoring orderliness in areas of the state.
He called on traders, transporters and residents to report any incident of extortion to the agency for prompt action.
