Oye camp reacts as S’Court declares Njoku new APGA national chairman

Lawrence Nwimo, Awka

There is a fresh twist in the case involving Chief Victor Oye and Chief Edozie Njoku over who is the rightful national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

This is happening on Friday as the Supreme Court reaffirmed Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA.

The apex court made the pronouncement in a judgment on an application by Njoku, where he sought the regularization of the amended judgment of Justice Mary Peter Odili delivered on May 9, 2022.

Njoku’s motion followed a letter of the Supreme Court to him on January 19, 2023, wherein the apex court had addressed him as the national chairman of APGA and advised him to approach the court by way of a motion to correct the slip.

The accidental slip which was corrected by the Supreme Court restored Njoku as the actual national chairman of the party that was wrongfully removed by a Jigawa High Court.

In a lead Judgment, Justice Garba Lawal held that it was Edozie Njoku that was wrongly removed at Jigawa without being joined as a party.

Justice Lawal subsequently stated that Njoku’s application was meritorious and consequently granted it as prayed.

It, therefore, issued an order, expunging the aspect of the judgment where Oye’s name was reflected as the national chairman of the party.

Reacting to the decision of the apex court, Njoku appealed to the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo to make himself available for a discussion on the way forward for the party.

He said he will also do everything possible to bring stability to the party.

But a statement signed by the APGA National Publicity Secretary, Barr Tex Okechukwu, described the purported removal of Victor Oye by the Supreme Court as hoax to create disaffection and controversy within APGA.

He urged the people to disregard the reports flying around, noting that the Supreme Court never affirmed Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA.
