The Management of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), has sealed off the reception Hall of Bon Platinum Hotel Enugu following the pandemonium that occurred during the issuance of Certificates of Return to Dr Peter Mbah by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday.

Ikengaonline recalls that during the event there was a loud crack and a big bang from the pillars of the hall which saw the governor-elect, his deputy, INEC Commissioner and other dignitaries dignitaries scampering to safety.

Following the development it was later discovered that there was an alleged structural defect which caused a big bang midway into the event.

The ECTDA which is in-charge of city development went for an inspection on the facility and said it discovered the building had no approval plan, together with another upcoming structure in the hotel.

Speaking on the closure, Chairman of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, Dr. Josef Onoh, said the management of the hotel was impatient with the agency to conclude its investigation of the facility and was bent on holding another function on the distressed hall by Saturday without resolving the problem with the building.

He said the hall didn’t have an approval while the hotel has and that there was a structural bang on the hall while the INEC invent lasted “which made everybody to scatter because they thought the building was going to collapse.”

“So, we went there today for inspection and we are now sealing the place, including another building being developed at the back.

“The proprietor of the hotel is not ready to exercise patience for the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) to come for their own inspection, but is asking us to allow her host a wedding there tomorrow (Saturday).

“I wonder how much she collected for the event that the venue cannot be relocated; so, we have sealed the hall, ” Onoh said.
