Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki

Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev Dr Peter Chukwu, has charged Christians to put the condition of the country and its feature in the hands of the risen Christ.

The Bishop gave the charge in his sermon during the Easter Vigil Service at the St. Theresa’s Cathedral Abakaliki.

The midnight service/ vigil heralds the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Christendom.

The Bishop lamented that the condition of the country has put the people in a state of confusion and uncertainty.

He however urged the people not to despair but to put their trust in God to change the condition of the country for good.

He said: “The situation of Nigeria right now, we don’t know if the country is moving forward, backwards or just stagnant.

“We don’t know what the future holds. Let’s put the country in the hands of the risen Jesus Christ. We should also put Ebonyi State in his hands. Let the risen Christ take total control”

“Because the people of Nigeria and Ebonyi State are among those whom Christ suffered, was crucified and died for and finally he resurrected,” he added.

The Bishop also advised the faithful to also put their personal lives especially their shortcomings and challenges in the hands of God.

Highlights of the service include the lighting of the Paschal Candle and the baptism of some members of the church.
