The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Chidi Nwoke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Ebonyi North State Constituency election.
Mr Nwoke defeated Maxwell Umahi, younger brother of Governor David Umahi to clinch the position.
The younger Umahi is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the said election.
This is one of the results of the supplementary elections held in some parts of Ebonyi State on Saturday, the 15th of April, 2023.
Mr Nwoke garnered a total of 5,988 votes to defeat Mr Umahi who came second with 5,664 votes.
The results was announced by the collation officer for the election, Smart Otu.
Reacting to his victory, Mr Nwoke expressed appreciation to the people for standing by him and promised never to disappoint them.
He went on to promise that he would see to the making of laws that would lead to the development of Ebonyi North Constituency.
Many supporters of the party as well as supporters of Nwoke sang and danced immediately the results were announced.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Kingsley Ikoro of the APC, has been declared the winner of the House of Assembly election conducted in Afikpo North West State Constituency.
The Collation Officer, Professor Omaka Omaka, explained that Ikoro garnered 5012 votes to defeat Mr Oko Enyim who garnered 4059 votes.
The winner was declared at Akpuoha Central School, the Collation Center.
INEC said that the by-election was held due to various irregularities and violence that led to the cancellation of March 18, 2023 election in some areas.
In Ebonyi State, the supplementary election was held in seven local governments which include Ebonyi, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ezza North, Ezza South, Ikwo and Ivo.
