Former Lagos Governor and Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has finally opened up on the dual citizenship of the President-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Fashola who was responding to an online revelation that Tinubu has Guinea passport, said “the Nigerian constitution allows Tinubu as well as Nigerian citizens to have dual citizenship.”

The former Lagos Governor who featured on a national television was the first APC stalwart to respond to the controversy over Tinubu’s dual citizenship.

According to Fashola, having dual citizenship will not prevent a citizen from becoming Nigerian President.

“It is place of birth; if you are born to Nigerian parents! I will check but I doubt if Nigeria’s constitution makes you disentitled if you have dual citizenship because the constitution allows you to have dual citizenship.

“The last time I checked, I think the Nigerian constitution allows you to have dual citizenship, doesn’t it?”

Fashola further said: “Dual citizenship, I know he carries a Nigerian passport, I don’t know about dual citizenship, I know he resided abroad when he went on exile.

“I don’t know if they gave him American citizenship there. What does that have to do with the results of the election?

“What does his citizenship have to do with the results of the election?”

Ever since the issue of dual citizenship popped up over the weekend, Tinubu’s camp has been mum over the matter.

There are fears that Tinubu may face perjury over the matter having lied on oath that he has no dual citizenship.
