Lawrence Nwimo, Awka

President General of the Urum community in Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra, Chief  Alloy Tabansi, has called the attention of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to save his community from long suffering and hardship as a result of the state of their access road.

The community leader said that the road connecting Isuaniocha-Urum-Amanuke,  Ugbene and to Achalla, their Local Government headquarters is in a deplorable state and needs the attention of the government for its reconstruction.

He said that Urum is an agrarian community and that as a town that makes up Awka’s capital development territory, has been looking forward to benefiting from infrastructural development from the present administration.

According to him, such development would help boost the community’s zeal for agriculture which would at the same time increase the agricultural output of the community in the state.

The PG made the call during the distribution of clothing and wears to over 80 persons in his Urum community by Street Aid Africa Foundation (SAAF), a non-governmental organisation, in partnership with the Urum Development Union in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

The items distributed for free include clothes, shoes, handbags, beads, bangles, children’s wears among others.

The leader of the team in Anambra State, Miss Divine Alex, said the Organisation focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goal which is to provide education and empowerment for children.

Miss Alex said the items distributed were earlier donated by good-spirited individuals after the founder of the NGO, Nancy Nwosu, showed interest in that regard.

According to her, the aim was to cloth people in rural communities who do not have the financial capacity to acquire those items from the market.

Other programmes of the NGO initiative include: feeding the street; impact school outreach; voiceless conferences for amplifying socially and sexually sensitive issues; and pad drive for female adolescents.
