No fewer than seven persons were reportedly killed in a ghastly motor accident yesterday at Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to eyewitnesses account, a Mercedes Benz ML 350 Jeep and an unregistered Tricycle collided along Nibo Amawbia Road, near Eke Nibo Market, killing five occupants of the vehicles and passers by.
Sources said three persons died at the spot while four other victims were rushed to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, PPRO Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said two not seven lives were lost in the incident.
“Police operatives recovered a Mercedes Benz ML 350 Jeep with Reg Nos. AE 712 ABM and an unmarked tricycle that was involved in a fatal road accident that occurred by 3:30 pm along Oye-Nibo road, Awka South.
“The operatives responding to the distress call, found two lifeless unidentified male bodies on the road while four others who were seriously wounded were rushed to hospital for medical attention. The two bodies were recovered and deposited in the morgue.
“Meanwhile, investigations into the unfortunate incident are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated,” the PPRO said.
