The Labour Party (LP) Federal House of Representatives member-elect for Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency, Prof. Paul Nnamchi has inaugurated a tech-hub and innovation centre for youths empowerment in Enugu State.
Nnamchi unveiled the programme christened: “Prof. Paul Nnamchi Tech-hub and Youth Innovation (PPNTAYI)” during the graduation of 150 students that participated in a computer training sponsored by Nnamchi at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, on Sunday.
He said that he wants to hit the ground running, although he had not be sworn-in, by providing sustainable empowerment in various endeavours to his constituents and by extension all resident of Enugu State.
According to him, I am in a hurry to ensure that my constituents and by extension Enugu State feel the full-blown impact of our people-oriented leadership and clear cut people-focused innovations and programmes meant to better their lives.
Nnamchi said that the PPNTAYI platform is about the youths and children, which are the abundant resources presently in the country and see how best to tap from their energy and initiatives to reshape the future of the state and country.
“The PPNTAYI platform is a vehicle to deliver my campaign promises and to ensure that vast majority of our people not just witness but are part of the transformation change; thus, moving our people from consumption to production.
“I have the burning zeal to deliver the aspiring of my people that have been abandoned for a long time. Having limited time that explains why I am hitting the ground running even before I will be sworn-in.
“I intend to use the limitless boundaries of education, especially in various endeavour of human existence, to push my people up in the socio-economic ladder,” he said.
Nnamchi, who was overwhelmingly elected on the platform of the Labour Party, said that “PPNTAYI had numerous programmes including STEM education for youths, commercial education for adults, sustainable education for rural development as well as innovative for green materials, renewable energy among others.
He said, “We needed human capital development and teaching our people the affects of climate change, which is real and it is already affecting our lives so that we care for the environment and people around us the more.
“Prior to my election, I have a centre at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), which is on rural sustainable development; where we train people on sustainable agriculture for women and youths, conversion of waste to wealth and renewal energy among others.”
On the graduation of 150 students in the tech-hub, the rep member-elect said that the PPNTAYI would ensure that students in the constituency acquire modern knowledge and skill to compete favourable with people of the advance world.
“We are gradually moving to the level of highly skilled computer and IT professionals that can tap from the employability and innovation current embedded in software programme design, coding and other advance computer/ICT uses,” he said.
The Coordinator of the computer training, Mr Nwachukwu Igwe, said that the student had a month intensive training on computer appreciation, Microsoft programming, advance use of internet among others.
“Over 98 per cent of the students are proficient in computer/ICT they have learnt and we intend to graduate them to higher level as they move to the very high tech uses of computer/ICT for business and innovative purposes,” Igwe said.
Speaking, Chief Emeka Ogene, Chairman of Labour Party in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, said that the newly launched PPNTAYI platform shows the commitment of Labour Party to keep to its campaign promises and put the people first in all it plans.
Ogene noted that very soon the people would start witnessing and being part of innovative transformation of the party and her candidates, even as the party want to take good governance to the next level in the country.
In the same vein, Monsignor Chuks Ogbuene, Parish Priest in-charge of St. Theresa Catholic Church Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, said that Nnamchi had started on a good footing by putting the people first, adding that the computer training would help the students get employment while they further their education.
One of the graduating students, Master Usman Emmanuel of Real Genius International College, Thinkers Corner, Enugu, thanked Nnamchi for the opportunity of free computer training and cash award of N10,000 after the training.
Another graduating student, Miss Uchechukwu Eze of Success International College, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, appreciated Nnamchi for making the free computer training possible, adding: “I pray for good health and wisdom for Prof. Nnamchi for him to continue to excel.”
