The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a police advocacy group, has called for rebirth of national values among youths.
The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, made the call on Monday in Enugu while decrying the spate of moral decadence among youths in the country.
Amaraizu said that there was an urgent need for parental guidance and support to all youths in the country to imbibe positive values and attributes.
According to him, the role of parents in the moral upbringing of their children cannot be overemphasised.
“National values are to be re-inculcated in our young minds through a well designed deliberate programmes and proper parenting for them to thrive for a functional community and a greater nation,“ he said.
Amaraizu said that POCACOV had started massive engagement of multi-agencies, media organisations, government and non-governmental persons, traditional Institutions, faith-based organisations, community leaders, schools under a whole of society approaches on value reorientation for moral rebirth and for a greater society.
“Through the massive engagement, young persons are exposed to critical thinking on importance of contentment.
“They are made to develop the courage of resisting any issue that will take them to advance fee fraud, drug trafficking, get-rich-quick-syndrome as well as anti-social behaviours which usually give rise to their vulnerabilities to be recruited into organised criminal groups,” he said.
The national coordinator said that the issue of greater awareness of moral consciousness and rebirth through promotion of national values for the youths to keep imbibing and implementing positive lifestyle, should not be taken for granted.
“A youth today, will be that leader or parent tomorrow and if he has no knowledge of these values, will pass nothing to his children and followers and the problem persists and becomes inter-generational in nature,” he said.
