Governor David Umahi has announced that his administration will pay workers of the state N10,000 as exit package at the end of the month.
He said the package is to appreciate the workers for their support throughout the past 8 years of his administration.
He said the money will be added to workers salary for the month of May and paid at the end of the month.
Umahi stated this at the occasion of the 2023 Workers Day celebration which held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium, Abakaliki on Monday.
Represented by his Deputy, Kelechi Igwe, the governor paid glowing tributes to the workforce of the State for their contributions and sacrifices to the development of the State.
“We have every reason to commend you highly for your numerous sacrifices which have paid off in our collective accomplishments as a Government and as a people.”
“I have approved our exit package of ₦10,000.00 to all state and local government workers which shall be added in their May salary and paid to them.
“I have approved ₦300,000,000.00 intervention fund to EBSU to further assist them in their payment of salaries while David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital and the University shall get ₦100,000,000 each to help them continue their infrastructure from the point where we had stopped due to lack of funds.”
The governor enjoined the workers to support the incoming administration of Francis Nwifuru.
“The governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, is a man who has been around and will continue the duty of governance from where we shall stop.
“I plead you give him peace and time to settle down.”
He thanked the workers for their partnership, love, prayers and co-operation in the past eight years of his service in Ebonyi State.
He however noted that his administration had disagreements with workers during the period and pleaded for forgiveness from those he might have offended.
“There is no doubt I stepped on toes and offended some. It was never intentional it was the best I knew and for the good of our people, please forgive.
“As I bow out, I have forgiven all those who thought they offended me. May God bless our state, our workers and our people,” he said.
